The Secretary-General of the UN Ban-Ki Moon announced that he will add three additional women to the High-level Independent Panel on Peace Operations. One of them is Dr. Marie-Louise Baricako, a Burundian professor and women rights activist. She was an advocator during the Arusha peace talks to incorporate a 30% participation rate of woman in Burundian government institutions. In her new role as UN panel member, she will be partly occupied with the UN Security Resolution 1325. This Resolution aims to increase the role of women in peace-building processes. The nomination of Dr. Baricako hopefully contributes to women’s position in Burundi. It is a good effort to boost the implementation of Resolution 1325 in Burundi. unwomen.org/en/news/stories/2014/12/new-women-appointments-to-peace-operations-panel
