The Secretary General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon, flew - TopicsExpress

The Secretary General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon, flew into Strabane Airport today amid rising political tension in West Tyrone. His arrival follows a controversial vote in Plumbridge City Hall which saw councilors agree to replace the town Christmas Tree with a giant inflatable statue of Hugo Duncan. This controversial decision came hot on the heels of a similar vote in Gortin which saw that towns tree taken down and a 20ft high representation of Eamonn Holmes erected in its place. Security experts fear that the two votes will spark a new local TV celebrity arms race, similar to the 2008 crisis which almost brought open conflict in the region. During that tense period war was only averted when a Gortin mural depicting Walter Love riding a bicycle and a Plumbridge depiction of Malachy Cush looking at a badger were painted over by UN peacekeepers. A spokesman for Plumbridge Council stated that he couldnt be arsed commenting as it was Friday, but that when he got back into work on Monday he might move the security alert level to Def Con Wan. At this early stage we would like to appeal to all residents to remain calm, stay indoors and get drunk. xo
