The Security Law Passed in Highly Shameful Indignity: President - TopicsExpress

The Security Law Passed in Highly Shameful Indignity: President Should Not Have Signed Them The security laws were passed in the most undignified way. It was akin to mob-justice thing. The Speakers voice could not be heard, papers and clothes were torn, MPs bite each other leading to hospitalization and possible amputation, shouting match every where, MPs kicked each other etc. It was total chaos and anarchy. Parliament turned into a den of thuggish behaviour with scenes only witnessed in brawls occurring in soka matches or drinking dens. The Speaker ought to have taken a high moral ground to restore the dignity of Parliament. He ought to have suspended the debate by at least one month. He did not. I am left unsure whether Justine Muturi is impartial as required by the law and as expected by Kenyans. Its clear that there was critical need for more time- at least 1-2months to allow for sober reflection and wider debate. This Security Amendment Bill itself is 90 page long, contains 109 provisions and amends no less than twenty-one Acts of Parliament. It was unfair to give MPs and Kenyans only a few days to go through it yet the Executive and Jubilee had months and months going over it. The most contested Articles have nothing to do with terrorism but areas that touch on non-security linked areas and which will affect Kenyans in their daily life in a fundamental way. When the Speaker failed drastically in his duties, the President should have restored dignity which he too sadly failed. For Uhuru Kenyatta to assent to these laws was ill-advised. Given the manner in which they were passed, every dignity disappeared and hence the President would have declined to sign them on the basis of the horror like way that they were passed- after all there is no emergency. And just to mention Jomo Kenyatta allowed similar laws passed in similar manner in the 1960s, and 1970s using raw power and tyranny of numbers. 30 years later, these same laws came to haunt Jomo Kenyattas core supporters. They cost Jomo Kenyattas supporters-dearly- about 3million would be displaced, thousands killed, and millions are now poorer than they were in 1960s. With Uhuru signing these laws, only history will bear true witness. His supporters inside and outside parliament may applaud the signing of the Bill into laws, but in the near or distant future they may pay a very heavy price again. I will shortly mention the specific clauses I am opposed to in that Bill besides the manner in which they were passed. With no option remaining, I hope the Courts will help do away with those offending clauses and if not, I will Amend these laws if elected in 2017 to ensure harmony and unity in our society where the minority also feel their voices are 100% listened to. https://youtube/watch?v=srkzYlPOynA
