The Senior League World Series features five regional teams from the United States, Canada, Latin America, Europe & Africa, Asia-Pacific, and the Maine District 3 champion – the host district. Information on teams will be posted when it becomes available. Illam Central L.L., Makati City, Philippines, captured the Asia-Pacific regional championship with a 7-6 win over the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands on July 7. Illam Central was 4-0 in pool play and 6-0 overall in the regional, held in the Philippines. The team outscored opponents 44-18. This will be Illam Central’s fourth trip to Bangor, with the others coming in 2006, 2008, and 2009. The league has a record of 4-9 (.308). It is the only league from Asia-Pacific that has advanced to a Bangor World Series semifinal, accomplishing the feat in 2009 with a 3-1 record after going 0-4 in 2008. Illam Central lost to eventual World Series champion West University L.L., Houston, Texas, 6-1. Asia-Pacific teams are 10-34 (.227) in pool play since 2002, and 10-35 (.222) overall. The region has lost 13 consecutive games since the semifinal loss to West University. Illam Central will play in Pool A, along with Canada; Maine District 3’s Bangor East/West L.L., Bangor; U.S. Southeast’s Martinez-Evans L.L., Martinez, Ga.; and U.S. West’s Pearl City L.L., Pearl City, Hawaii. Its first game will be at 5 p.m., Aug. 12 against Bangor East/West. Emilia L.L., Emilia, Italy, successfully defended its Europe & Africa title with a 7-2 win on July 7 over Great Britain. The team went 3-0 in pool play and 4-0 overall at the regional, held in Novara, Italy. This will be the fifth series in which a team from Italy will represent Europe & Africa. Emilia is the third different league during the span to represent Italy, the others being Friulia Venezia Giulia L.L., Friulia Venezia Giulia (2009, 2011) and Lazio L.L., Lazio (2010). Last year, Emilia was 1-3 in pool play. Europe & Africa teams have a pool play record of 10-34 (.227) and an overall record of 10-35 (.222). In 2011, Friulia Venezia Giulia became the first Europe & Africa team ever to advance to the Senior League Baseball World Series semifinals, when it went 3-1 in pool play before losing to eventual World Series champ Hilo L.L., Hilo, Hawaii, 10-0 in five innings. Emilia will play in Pool B, along with Latin America champ Chitre L.L., Chitre, Herrera, Panama; U.S. Central, U.S. East’s Kennett Square KAU L.L., Kennett Square, Pa.; and U.S. Southwest’s Northside L.L., Laredo, Texas. Its first game will be at 10 a.m., Aug. 12 against Kennett Square KAU. Chitre L.L., Chitre, Herrera, Panama, won the Latin America regional on July 13, defeating Flor Amamarillo L.L., Valencia, Carabobo, Venezuela, 1-0. Chitre was 4-0 in pool play and 6-0 overall in the regional, held in Saint Maarten, Netherlands, Antilles. It outscored opponents 49-11. This will be Chitre’s first trip to Bangor. Another Panamanian team, Activo 2-30 L.L., Santiago Veraguas, played in the 2005 World Series – the only team from Latin America not to advance to the semifinals since 2002. Latin America has a pool play record of 33-10 (.767) and an overall record of 43-16 (.729) since 2002. The region has won four of 11 Bangor World Series: 2002’s Pabao L.L., Willemstad, Curacao, Netherlands Antilles; 2006’s Paraguana L.L., Falcon, Venezuela; 2010’s Aruba South L.L., San Nicolas, Aruba; and last year’s Juvenil de Guatemala, Guatemala City, Guatemala. Chitre will play in Pool B, along with Europe & Africa’s Emilia L.L., Emilia, Italy; U.S. Central, U.S. East’s Kennett Square KAU L.L., Kennett Square, Pa.; and U.S. Southwest’s Northside L.L., Laredo, Texas. Its first game will be at 2:30 p.m., Aug. 11, against U.S. Central. Martinez-Evans L.L., Martinez, Ga.,won the U.S. Southeast regional on Aug. 6, defeating Dumfries District 3 L.L., Va., 3-1. Martinez-Evans went 3-0 in pool play and 5-0 overall in the tournament, held in Debary, Fla., outscoring opponents 40-7. This will be the third Bangor World Series to which Georgia has sent a team, the others being Habersham L.L., Clarkesville, in 2005 and Cartersville L.L., Cartersville, in 2007. Habersham went 2-2 while Cartersville won the world title, going 4-2 after losing its first two pool play games and needing to win a tiebreaker to advance to the semifinals. U.S. Southeast teams are 27-17 (.614) in pool play in Bangor World Series, with a 3-5 record in the semifinals and a 1-2 record in championship games. Martinez-Evans will play in Pool A, along with Asia-Pacific’s Illam Central L.L., Makati City, Philippines; Canada; Maine District 3’s Bangor East/West L.L., Bangor; and U.S. West’s Pearl City L.L., Pearl City, Hawaii. Bangor East/West L.L., Bangor, won its first Maine District 3 title in three years, beating defending district champ Bronco L.L., Hampden, 3-2 on Aug. 6. The 2013 series will mark the eighth time Bangor East/West has been the host team. The league appeared in the 2002, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2009, and 2010 series. The 2010 team was the first Maine District 3 team to win more than one game in a series, as it finished pool play with a 3-1 record and advanced to the semifinals. In the semifinals, Bangor East/West defeated Manhattan L.L., Manhattan Beach, Calif., and became the first team from Maine in any division of Little League to play for a world title. Bangor East/West lost the title game 8-1 to Aruba South L.L., San Nicolas, Aruba. In this year’s Maine District 3 double elimination tournament, Bangor East/West finished with a 4-0 record, outscoring opponents 25-6. Maine District 3 teams have an 11-32 (.256) pool play record in Bangor World Series, and an overall record of 12-33 (.267). Bangor East/West will play in Pool A, along with Asia-Pacific’s Illam Central L.L., Makati City, Philippines; Canada; U.S. Southeast’s Martinez-Evans L.L., Martinez, Ga.; and U.S. West’s Pearl City L.L., Pearl City, Hawaii. The team’s first game will be at noon, Aug. 11, against Canada. Pearl City L.L., Pearly City, Hawaii, had to go eight innings before prevailing 4-3 over Manhattan Beach L.L., Manhattan Beach, Calif., in the U.S. West regional title game on Aug. 6. The Hawaiians worked three consecutive walks with two outs in the bottom of the eighth before getting a bases-loaded walk to end the game. Pearl City went 6-1 in pool play and 7-1 overall in the regional, held in Chino, Calif., beating Manhattan Beach 14-4 in six innings via the 10-run rule in pool play. The team’s only loss came against host Chino National L.L., Chino Hills, 8-6. Pearl City outscored opponents 95-25, with 35 runs coming from a 35-0, five-inning drubbing of Clackamas L.L., Clackamas, Ore. This is Pearl City’s fourth Bangor appearance, with the others coming in 2005, 2006, and 2008. The league lost the World Series title game in 2005, 7-2, to Urbandale L.L., Urbandale, Iowa; and in 2006, 4-2, to Paraguana L.L., Falcon, Venezuela. The league’s 2008 entry is the only U.S. West team not to advance beyond pool play in a Bangor series, as it finished 2-2. Nevertheless, Pearl City has a 10-2 (.833) pool play record in Bangor and an overall record of 12-4 (.750). U.S. West teams have a 39-5 (.886) pool play record in Bangor and an overall record of 48-13 (.787). Pearl City will play in Pool A, along with Asia-Pacific’s Illam Central L.L., Makati City, Philippines; Canada; Maine District 3’s Bangor East/West L.L.; and U.S. Southeast’s Martinez-Evans L.L.., Martinez, Ga. Its first game will be at 8 p.m., Aug. 11, against Martinez-Evans. Northside L.L., Laredo, Texas, knocked off perennial favorite West University L.L., Houston, Texas, 9-0 in the U.S. West championship game on Aug. 6. West University had been seeking its fourth trip to Bangor. The league won the 2009 World Series on its first try in Bangor, then failed to make it out of pool play in 2010 (2-2 record) and in 2012 (2-2). Northside went 3-0 in the regional, held in Seguin, Texas. It outscored opponents 17-1. This will be Northside’s first trip to Bangor. Texans have won the U.S. Southwest regional 10 times since the World Series moved to Bangor in 2002. A team from the state, which because of its geographical size sends two teams to the regional, as well as the host, has won the last seven regionals in a row. U.S. Southwest teams have a 26-17 (.605) pool play record in Bangor World Series, and an overall record of 29-20 (.592). The region has appeared in four semifinals and two championships, with its only title being West University’s in 2009. Northside will play in Pool B, along with Europe & Africa’s Emilia L.L., Emilia, Italy; Latin America’s Chitre L.L., Chitre, Herrera, Panama; U.S. Central; and U.S. East’s Kennett Square KAU L.L., Kennett Square, Pa. Its first game is scheduled for 5 p.m., Aug. 11 against Kennett Square KAU. Kennett Square KAU L.L., Kennett Square, Pa., defeated Quincy Youth Baseball L.L., Quincy, Mass., 6-2 on Aug. 6 to win the U.S. East regional. Kennett Square went 4-0 in the double-elimination tournament, held in West Deptford, N.J., outscoring opponents 34-14. This will be the league’s – and Pennsylvania’s – first trip to Bangor. After U.S. East dominance by New Jersey teams from 2002-10, the region has now seen three different states win: Maryland’s Easton/Home Run Baker L.L., Talbot County, in 2011, Massachusetts’ Auburn L.L., Auburn, in 2012, and now Pennsylvania. U.S. East teams are 29-15 (.659) in pool play in Bangor, with an overall record of 33-18 (.647). Five U.S. East teams have advanced to the semifinals, and two have not only advanced to the championship game, but won it – Freehold L.L., Freehold Township, N.J., in 2004; and North Cumberland L.L., Upper Deerfield, N.J., in 2008. Kennett Square KAU will play in Pool B, along with Europe & Africa’s Emilia L.L., Emilia, Italy; Latin America’s Chitre L.L., Chitre, Herrera, Panama; U.S. Central; and U.S. Southwest’s Northside L.L., Laredo, Texas. Its first game is scheduled for 5 p.m., Aug. 11 against Northside. Clear Ridge L.L., Chicago, Ill., won the U.S. Central regional on Aug. 7 with a 7-3 win over Southern L.L., Grand Rapids, Mich. Clear Ridge went 3-1 in pool play and 5-1 overall, outscoring opponents 42-20 in Peru and Oglesby, Ill. This will be Clear Ridge’s first trip to Bangor. One other Chicago league has played in Bangor, as Humboldt Park L.L. represented the U.S. Central region in 2004, going 2-2. U.S. Central teams are 20-23 (.465) in pool play in Bangor and 22-25 (.468) overall, with three semifinal appearances and one championship game appearance – won by Urbandale L.L., Urbandale, Iowa, in 2005 against Pearl City L.L. Since Urbandale’s 2005 title, the region has a record of 11-17 (.393). Clear Ridge will play in Pool B, along with Europe & Africa’s Emilia L.L., Emilia, Italy; Latin America’s Chitre L.L., Chitre, Herrera, Panama; U.S. East’s Kennett Square KAU L.L., Kennett Square, Pa.; and U.S. Southwest’s Northside L.L., Laredo, Texas, The team’s first game is set for 2:30 p.m., Aug. 11 against Chitre L.L., Chitre, Herrera, Panama. U.S. Central teams are 0-11 against Latin America teams. Cape Breton L.L., District 1, Nova Scotia, defeated Thunder bay South L.L., Thunder Bay, Ontario, 9-8 on Aug. 8 to win the Canada regional. Cape Breton went 5-1 in pool play and 7-1 overall at the regional, hosted by Thunder Bay South. Its only loss was to Thunder Bay South, 8-5 on the last day of pool play. The Nova Scotians outscored opponents 49-26. This is the first time Canada’s Atlantic division has sent a team to Bangor. In pool play, Canada has a record of 13-31 (.295) in Bangor World Series. Canada teams have won more than one game only four times in the last 11 series. The region’s best entry in the series was Whalley L.L., Surrey, British Columbia, in 2008. Whalley went 3-1 in pool play before losing 1-0 in the semifinals to eventual champion North Cumberland L.L., Upper Deerfield, N.J. Since then, Canada has had a record of 1-15. Canada has a winning record against only one region in the series – Asia-Pacific (4-2). It has had a fair amount of success against Maine District 3 teams, going 4-7. Canada teams are in the midst of a four-game losing streak against the host district. The region’s last win against District 3 was during the successful 2008 series. Canada will play in Pool A, along with Asia-Pacific’s Illam Central L.L., Makati City, Philippines; Maine District 3’s Bangor East/West L.L., Bangor; U.S. Southeast’s Martinez-Evans L.L., Martinez, Ga.; and U.S. West’s Pearl City L.L., Pearl City, Hawaii. Cape Breton’s first game will be the series opener, at 12 p.m., Aug. 11 against Bangor East/West.
