The Sick Bay Rangers log. Today started early with clean ship before church parade. The ship looked done up to the nines. The signal men had washed all the bunting and had it hanging all over, the captain was furious! The church pennant was raised and the padre let us have it! This ere padre from the fleet certainly knows his bible. After church were done we was called aft for a captains talk. He be a saying how the French fleet is liable to come out any day and we is the eyes of the fleet. Thats what Admiral Nelson said to all ships. After we was dismissed I was called to the captains day cabin. He seems to think I is wasted as an able seaman and he is considering placing me in a more suitable position. What he means I have not a clue. Its all round the ship now as to how I can read. My watch be a pulling my leg about me being posh cos I can read. They even started knuckling their foreheads. Im trying right hard to take it in good stead but it be hard. Tomorrow we be a putting into Gibraltar for stores and for the captain to be given any news by the Admiral. Hope the Beagle is in port just sos we can be rid of mr Darwin and his blessed servant. Its all his fault Im in this pickle in the first place. I be off to me ammock via me pills and potions. I took a sneaky look in the captains mirror while was in his day cabin. Still got me looks. Im off me hearties. Night night.
