The Six Day War: The Middle East June, 1967. Israel is beset on all sides by enemies(nothing new) namely Egypt, Jordan, and Syria. On the Eve of war Egypt had amassed 100,000 of its 160,000 troops in the Sinai, Syria 75,000 on the Syrian border, while Jordan had 55,000 troops and 300 tanks along their border with Israel. The IDF had a total force of 264,000 troops although this number couldnt be sustained due to the necessary civilian occupations of their reservists. The Israelis new they had to act fast if they were going to win so on June 5, 7:45 in Israeli time all but 12 of the IAF planes launched a massive attack on the Egyptian Air Force. They attacked early in the morning when the pilots were on their coffee break. The EAF was taken completely by surprise and utterly destroyed. Soon afterwards Israeli forces invaded the Sinai, Gaza, and seized East Jerusalem. In just six days one country completely and totally outnumbered defeated its enemies and gained territory.
