The Source of Wisdom (John 3:1-21) There was a high priest - TopicsExpress

The Source of Wisdom (John 3:1-21) There was a high priest over the city of Jerusalem that was well respected and regarded by all in the province. On many occasions this man had heard of incredible miracles that have occurred at the hands of a poor, homeless man named Jesus. This man’s name was Nicodemus and he was a member of the High Counsel called The Sanhedrin. He also was an upright standing leader of a group called The Pharisees. He was a well-to-do, educated man and well versed in all Biblical Scriptures. He knew the promise of a coming Messiah and also of God’s promise of continued deliverance to all of his people. He knew and saw many things in his life and had seen The Lord’s incredible work personally many times! Nothing in his wildest imagination could even begin to prepare him for what he was about learn! He decided that if all these rumors were true, and if his own eyes were not deceiving him from what he witnessed himself personally, he had better evaluate this “man” for himself to learn more about these “miracles.” Knowing that his position and credibility would be jeopardized if caught in any way associating with this man, he decided that it would be best to come to him at night where there would be no speculation by onlookers as to the reason of his visit. He approached Jesus by night exclaiming “Rabbi.” This was interesting since Nicodemus himself was a “Rabbi.” This infers that Nicodemus humbled himself, as well as his office (the position of Rabbi), to approach a man of a far higher teaching! This is also what we must do as followers of Christ. We must put down our pride, our possessions, and our positions and humble ourselves completely to the cause of The Lord. This is the only way we can be fully blessed of God. Nicodemus knew this fact and had a sincere desire to “know more.” He realized that he could be a much better teacher if he knew more himself. Therefore, he came to the source of all knowledge, God. Once he had arrived he began to validate Jesus as being “sent by God” and asked if he could speak with him. Nicodemus already believed that Jesus was The Messiah sent by God, but he still wanted hard evidence to solidify this opinion. Jesus then began to speak to Nicodemus about The Kingdom of God and the way one must enter. Nicodemus was confused further and asked Jesus to explain this “mystery” to him. After explaining in more detail, Jesus then asked him a disturbing question that is even more relevant and perturbing today than it was then! “You are a respected teacher of many and you don’t know these things?” I have asked myself many times why this is in our modern culture. I fully believe that the most prevalent reason that people are not being blessed in our churches today is that they are not being taught properly! They are being misled by “doctrines,” church etiquette, socialistic principles and many other forms of ungodly practice that veils them from the full manifestation of truth in The Lord Jesus Christ! Jesus then goes on to inform Nicodemus that if he doesn’t believe in the things he can see, then most certainly he will not believe in the things that he cannot see. Jesus then goes on to explain in detail why he was sent, what he will accomplish while here on earth, where he will return to, and why a person must believe in him. Remember, my dear brothers and sisters, seek wisdom and knowledge from The Lord in all things. Never assume that a person’s looks, finances, or social status prevents The Lord from using them in a mighty way! Always trust in God both in good times and bad. Trust him to the highest mountains and the lowest valleys. Trust him in riches and poverty. Trust him in ALL THINGS (Phi 4:13)! RAMSWELL
