The Sparrows Are Back Read Matthew 6:25-34 God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. (Psalm 46:1 (NIV) Years ago, we had sparrows by the flocks. They bathed in the birdbath and dried off on the fence railing. Other times they’d take dirt baths in our Japanese style garden. This year, we have had 10 or more at a time, plus three batches of babies who constantly chirp for mom or dad to feed them. Perhaps news has gotten out that our yard is a safe place with plenty of food and water. The news is out for Christians as well. We have a refuge where we can rest without fear or worry. If God can take care of the sparrows and count the hairs on our heads, then God is able to take care of us. The sparrows that visit our home fill the air with their songs and have no worry about finding plenty of food and water. They greet the dawn with notes of joy. If God takes care of the birds, how much more will God take care of us? When we worry, we lose our joy and effectiveness in serving God. When instead we have faith in God to meet our needs and put God first in our lives, then we can focus our energy on glorifying our Creator. (V. Louise Cunningham (Washington, USA) Thought for the Day Let go, and let God. Prayer Sustainer of all, you are the one who feeds the birds and dresses the flowers, so we know you will take care of us. Amen.
