The Spineless Leadership And The Drone Attacks US drone strikes - TopicsExpress

The Spineless Leadership And The Drone Attacks US drone strikes killed ten people and wounded another two in Miranshah, a restive Pakistani tribal region near the Afghan border, in less than 24 hours. The attacks were carried out at a time when the prime minister of Pakistan was making his speech at the UNO. He made a demand of bringing an end to the drone attacks and termed them the violation of the sovereignty of the country. The unilateral strikes came at the time when our head of the state was calling for their cessation. But Washington sent a clear-cut message of insult to Islamabad: the super power is neither polite nor considerate towards the third world country. The premier has turned himself into a figurehead at home and abroad. Both the inside enemies of Pakistan and the outside aggressive element are hell-bent on turning Pakistan into a failed state. But the leadership is content with making empty political statements, while the nation is bleeding profusely. The Foreign Office has consistently called for an immediate end to US drone strikes and consistently maintained that drone strikes are counter-productive, entail loss of innocent civilian lives and have human and humanitarian implications. Such strikes set dangerous precedents in inter-state relations. Why do US drone attacks not come to an end, even though the Pakistani government has repeatedly protested? Because, according to Dawn newspaper published on 30 September 2013, “Privately officials have been reported as saying the attacks can be useful in removing militants from the country.” The PPP leadership was hypocrite to the hilt on the issue of drone strikes. What about the PML-N leadership?
