The Story So Far As a preview to tonights long awaited, fiery friendly between old rivals England and Scotland, I take a look at how the 4 British teams have faired so far in their Euro 16 qualifying campaign... The 3 lions have had an interesting campaign so far, winning every game and keeping 3 clean sheets, however although the scores have been good, the reviews havent! People are complaining of boring football and a team who are failing to perform, accompanied by complaints that the defence are playing without confidence and making to many mistakes! Well Nathan Clyne showed against Slovenia that he could change that! the first problem to arise through the misty waters after the World Cup disappointment was the Daniel Dilemna. Sturridge picked up an injury in training the day after a match and club manager Brendan Rodgers stated he should always have a two day rest after a game, which of course re-ignited the club vs country debate! This was further followed by Sterlings claim that he was too tired to play against Estonia which caused real anger in England fans. To be honest, a player of 19 should be the fittest in the squad! Think of players like Gerrard, Lampard, Scholes and Giggs who would still be in the first team week in week out, even when theyre 30...without complaining of being too tired! The latest problem was the controversy of a NFL game being played in Wembley the week before the home game versus Slovenia! They still managed to drive to a comfortable 3-1 win, a game which saw Wayne Rooney win his 100th cap, but the pitch they were playing on was un-recognisable! It looked worse than the Sunday League pitch at the local leisure center which is just mud and soil really. This came after a record number of no fans! The lack of fans at the San Marino game was so severe that the whole upper tier was closed off! However, on the bright side, they are unbeaten and go into the Scotland game with ambition and confidence with a slightly new-look squad...lets see what they can do... The rest of the British teams seem to be doing well with Scotland being only just beaten by world champions Germany and pulling off a fantastic 1-0 win over the Republic of Ireland! It will be interesting to see Strachan and his team tonight as the last time that Scotland won against the 3 lions on home soil was back in 1985, when Strachan was in the team! Wales have shocked all and have really impressed so far under Coleman. Bale is feeling very confident with the players around him and said the squad is capable of reaching the finals in 2016! Wales are also unbeaten and managed to fight with World Cup dark horses Belgium for a point apiece in the qualifier on Sunday. Northern Ireland have also been impressive and have won 3 of their 4 qualifiers so far, keeping two clean sheets along the way and a 2-0 against Greece! There is not much to say about Northern Ireland other than to say that it would be great to see them reach the finals! Josh 18/11/14
