Excerpts from the Press Note released.If you are in the media or have blogs, please feel free to publish this or an excerpt of this: The Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) organized a Business Delegation to Japan between 16th & 17th October, 2014 to explore mutual business opportunities between the two countries. The visit coincided with ICC’s Bid presentation at World Chambers Federation to host the next World Chambers Congress in Kolkata during 2017. The ICC is the only Chamber from India that is bidding to host the 10th World Chambers’ Congress in 2017 in India. The Congress, which has not been held in India till date, has the potential of attracting around 2000 business leaders, over 13 Industry Chambers from over 100 Countries to our country, and can play a huge role in placing Kolkata on the global investment map. The ICC competed with CCPIT Zhejiang Provincial Committee of China , the Philippines Chamber of Commerce and Industry & the Sydney Business Chamber for the bid and the results are expected to be out by last week of November, 2014. Apart from the Bid Presentation on 17th October, one of the other important highlight of the visit was a ICC-Deloitte Business Seminar on “India-Japan Trade & Commerce : Trends & Prospects” on the 16th of October, 2014 , which was attended by around 50 selected and prominent CEOs of leading Japanese organizations. The ICC Delegation also met with important trade organizations and industry bodies in Tokyo for relevant discussions & exchanges, including the Japan Chamber of Commerce & Industry (JCCI) ; Japan – India Business Cooperation Committee (JIBCC) ; Japan Business Federation (Keidanren) ; Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) ; Govt. of Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade & Industry (METI) ; Policy Research Institute (PRI), Ministry of Finance, Govt. of Japan and Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO). The Delegation also had the opportunity to meet Mr. Haruhiko Kuroda, Governor, Bank of Japan. The Delegation met Mr.Arvind Singh, Minister (Economic), Embassy of India in Tokyo and discussed key issues pertaining to enhancement of Japanese investments in India, particularly in East & North-East of India. Indian Ambassador in Japan, HE Deepa Gopalan Wadhwa, hosted a Dinner for the ICC Delegation wherein key bilateral issues were discussed. The Indian Embassy in Tokyo felt all the meetings were fruitful, and promised of all assistance to ICC in the near future, in the Chamber’s endeavours towards enhancing India-Japan economic engagement. The ICC Delegation , led by President Mr. Roopen Roy, included Mr. Shiv Siddhant Kaul , Senior Vice President, ICC ; Mr. Sumit Mazumder, past Senior Vice President, ICC ; Mr. Rajat Nag, Chair – ICC Look East Council ; Mr. Vishal Agarwal, Chairman – ICC Odisha State Council ; Dr. Rajeev Singh, Director General, ICC ; Mr. V. Namasivayam, Senior Director, Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu India ; and Mr. Rohinton Sidhwa, International Tax Partner , Deloitte Tax group. Mr. H.K. Dwivedi, Principal Secretary, Finance, Govt. of West Bengal and Mr. Hirdyesh Mohan, Principal Secretary, Science & Technology, Govt. of West Bengal, also travelled as part of the ICC Delegation to Tokyo to invite Japanese business houses and Industry Captain’s to attend the “Biswa Banga Sammelan”, a global Investors’ Meet that will happen in Kolkata during January , 2015 , and also to showcase Bengal’s huge economic potential & Kolkata’s advantages during ICC’s Bid Presentation to the World Chambers Federation Governing Council.
