The Summary Of The Gospel According To Luke. The third Gospel, - TopicsExpress

The Summary Of The Gospel According To Luke. The third Gospel, Luke, was written by a Gentile (the only known Gentile author in the New Testament) who had never met Jesus. A close friend and traveling companion of Paul, Luke was a doctor by profession (see Colossians 4:14) and an evangelist by avocation. He wrote as a historian who paid close attention to detail. This book used Marks older Gospel as a structural background. It also has a sequel, the book of Acts. While Luke affirms the divinity of Jesus, the theme of Lukes Gospel is the humanity of Jesus. Jesus is not only the Son of God; He is the Son of Man, too. Luke writes to non-jewish readers, emphasizing that Jesus became fully human, identifying with our human condition. Luke is unique in many ways. Lukes Gospel is the longest of the Gospels, containing material not found in the others. For example, Jesus childhood, many parables (chapters 10-19), and His one-year ministry through Samaria and Berea, leading to His final journey to jerusalem, are all unique to Lukes Gospel. As a physician, he gives special attention to medical matters. He elaborates on the events surrounding the birth of Jesus. Prayer is given a prominent place. The book preserves four beautiful hymns (1:46-55; 1:67-79; 2:14; 2:29-32). No other biblical author includes or sympathizes with as many women as Luke does. Luke invites us to see the humanity of Jesus through His birth, His childhood, His ministry of compassion and healing, His horrific death, and His glorious resurrection.
