The Supplement: Cristiano Ronaldo could return to Manchester United Real Madrids internal politics could open the exit door The Suns Antony Kastrinakis revealed interesting information about Cristiano Ronaldo Cristiano Ronaldo could return to Manchester United because of his breakdown in relations with Real Madrid’s hierarchy and the influence of his agent, our Sunday Supplement panel claimed. The Portugal star has appeared at odds with Real’s policy of transforming their Champions League winning squad and any disillusionment makes a move back to Manchester realistic. The Sun’s Antony Kastrinakis insists Ronaldo disapproves of the club’s strategies rather than the club itself, saying: “The club, no. The situation at the club, certainly. If they get a massive fee for him from Manchester United, that satisfies all parties – particularly Jorge Mendes. Is it feasible? Of course. Antony Kastrinakis of The Sun “He had a go at [Real president] Florentino Perez about two weeks ago for selling Angel Di Maria and Xabi Alonso just a week before the season started. “A bizarre decision – they’re hot favourites to retain their title and the Champions League, the first team to do that in the new format. And now, two defeats in the league. “Ronaldo’s attack came just before the international break when they lost 4-2 at Real Sociedad. The collapse there sparked a massive debate – the debate whether they should have sold Di Maria to United and certainly Alonso to Bayern Munich. “Ronaldo said ‘if I were president I wouldn’t have done it’ and then Perez was under massive pressure when he announced record income. He said ‘there’s no problem between me and Ronaldo’.” Powerful figure Kastrinakis also said that Perez has hinted towards a fellow behind-the-scenes figure that could play a leading role in any exit negotiations on Ronaldo’s behalf. “Perez, in his speech, said ‘we did not sign Falcao because the equation didn’t add up’. Nothing to do with his agent. Now imagine the president of the biggest club in the world talking about an agent in a speech. “This was a coded message to the agent of Ronaldo, who also happens to be the agent of Falcao, his name is Jorge Mendes. “He is the agent of Jose Mourinho as well, he has in his books some of the best players in the world. “He is a very powerful figure. If Ronaldo were to leave Madrid, Mendes would have a very big say.” Kastrinakis also said that, in his sixth season at Real, Ronaldo may be allowed to leave when he has passed his pomp. “Would it make sense for Ronaldo to leave Madrid? It would make more sense for Madrid to let go of Ronaldo because his best years have been spent at the Bernabeu. “He won’t come as a spent force to Old Trafford, he would come as a player on the wane. He turns 30 next year. “If they get a massive fee for him from Manchester United, that satisfies all parties – particularly Mendes. Is it feasible? Of course.” Superstar The Times’ Matt Dickinson claimed that any sensational homecoming would add further complications to United’s highly-competitive forward line that already includes Falcao, Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney. “They don’t really need him. For a while United lacked superstar quality and there was regret they let him go, even at that price, he added. “Team-wise, it doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. We’re even wondering how they’ll fit in what they’ve got. But Ronaldo would improve any team in the world.”
