The Supreme Court on Wednesday cancelled 214 of the 218 coal - TopicsExpress

The Supreme Court on Wednesday cancelled 214 of the 218 coal blocks allocated by the successive governments since 1993 and gave the companies awarded coal licences six months to wind up their operations. The Supreme Court has also asked the companies running the coal blocks for the next months to pay Rs.295 per tonne of coal they extract. They also have to pay the same amount per tonne for the coal they have already extracted from the blocks, senior Supreme Court lawyer and AAP leader, Prashant Bhushan said. You might recall that Aam Aadmi Party leaders Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia and Gopal Rai had observed a fast from 26 July 2012 to 3 August 2012 demanding investigation into the coal scam. On 26 August 2012, the Aam Aadmi party had carried out a protest at the residences of the then Prime Minister Dr, Manmohan Singh and Congress President Mrs. Sonia Gandhi. But for the efforts of AAP leaders like Prashant Bhushan and others would the coal scam have been exposed leading up to this historic ruling? Donate today to the AAP to root out corruption at every level. Regards, Team AAP
