The Sustainability Action Forum was a success! Thank you everyone who showed up and shared their ideas, the brainstorming and interaction was fantastic! These are the four behavior modifications that we have committed to thus far: ~ Decreasing personal heater use: Along with infrastructure updates, this issue will become easier, however if even half the staff stop using space heaters from November - April, we could save up to $190,000! ~Taking the stairs: Every time the elevator is used it costs about 2.5 cents. By taking the stairs when possible, the school could have up to $109,000 a year. ~ Turning off computers: This could save about 400 watts per computer and further reduce the phantom plug load. ~ & easiest of all - dont use the handicap door button unless necessary!! Decreasing this behavior could create a 9% energy decrease and save about $96,000! This is not including the saved energy through heating and cooler that escapes while the door is open, and the effect of the buttons life-span which could potentially effect handicap people when broken. As always, dont forget to look up HCCs energy use on the Energy Dashboard which has been recently updated! energyengineeringinc/dashboard/hcc/ Thanks everybody, and keep sharing ideas…we really made progress today!
