The Taraba State government wants the federal government to return to its coffers, N25 billion it spent in constructing some federal roads in the state. The Acting Governor, Alhaji Sani Danladi Abubakar, said at the presentation of the 2015 budget that the money was spent to construct the Jalingo-Sunkani- Garba Chede and Bali-Serti- Gembu roads which are federal roads. He said the state’s 2015 budget projection was partly on the anticipated refund of the N25.6 billion from the federal government. He said: “It should be noted that the rehabilitation/ construction of these roads is the responsibility of the federal government and if the state came in to do it, it is only right for the federal government to refund what has been expended on them.” Danladi called on the state’s lawmakers and their counterparts at the National Assembly to join hands with the executive to mount pressure on the federal government to secure the refund. Meanwhile, the acting governor has pledged government’s commitment to end hostilities in some parts of the state, especially in Wukari local government. He made the pledge when a delegation from the Wukari Concerned Group for Peace paid him a courtesy visit at Government House, Jalingo over the weekend. Wukari local government and its environs as well as the southern and central zones of the state have witnessed series of ethno-religious crises since 2012 which have claimed many lives, displaced thousands and destroyed property worth millions of naira. The acting governor said government was touched by the lingering crises in the area and would do everything possible to end the hostilities. He thanked the group for coming up with an initiative to help restore peace and promised to support it to actualise its objective. Chairman of the group, Tanko Adi Hikon, said they were worried over the crises in the area, and came together irrespective of their different religious backgrounds to help government salvage the situation. 0
