The Tasmanian Minerals and Energy Councils Media Release The President of The Tasmanian Minerals and Energy Council, Wayne Bould, said the Tasmanian Minerals and Energy Council are fully supportive of a multi-million dollar investment attraction package to establish a silica smelter in Tasmania. “We are supportive of any initiative which will see the responsible development of the States mineral resources, adding value to the States economy and providing opportunity for the Tasmanian people,” Mr Bould said. “Any proposition which offers the additional economic benefits accruing from value adding in downstream processing effectively doubles the value to our State - additional employment - directly and through the regional supply chains, and in building the consistency of our electricity networks base load. “Attracting larger business enterprises to leverage the responsible development of Tasmanias mineral resources coupled with value adding downstream processing prior to export is a very sensible long term growth strategy for Tasmania. “Particularly when the strategy is directed to regional areas where their only future is dependent upon driving a strategic approach to re-regionalization.” Labor announced today the multi-million investment dollar attraction package to establish a silica smelter in Tasmania. The package forms part of the Labor Party’s resources policy, to be released in full later this week. “We look forward to the Labor party’s and the Liberal party’s resources policy.” Mr Bould said.
