The Tees Newport Bridge which connects Middlesbrough to Stockton - TopicsExpress

The Tees Newport Bridge which connects Middlesbrough to Stockton across the River Tees, was the first major vertical lift bridge in the UK. The lifting mechanism was locked in 1990 after a decrease in shipping traffic along the Tees removed its necessity, but the Bridge continues to be used as a Road Bridge and is a Grade II listed building. Pictured is the Bridge in both raised and lowered positions.
