The Telegraph . . .still has a link posted to the HAY FESTIVAL Cumberbatch/Brealey reading of Chris/Bessie letters from Simon Garfields book: TO THE LETTER: A CELEBRATION OF THE LOST ART OF LETTER WRITING [Ive been reading the book . . . and when we speak of the human condition . . . I find as much inside the letters between Chris and Bessie . . . as Ive discovered from any play . . . or revealed in any textbook . . .or papers by psychoanalytic theorists . . . . I adore the letters . . . . Nevertheless, I cant understand HOW [the mechanism] the love should blossom as a consequence of correspondence . . . so much is baffling . . . science cant begin to understand the human heart . . . its mysterious functioning--that is to say--the PRIMAL MIND, of course, I have some difficulty using the metaphor; ah, well . . . . What words in the letters triggered this attachment between Chris and Bessie? How is the feeling sustained--maintained? Why? The Human Mind is an incredible faculty . . . the Brain, a marvelous organ . . . And the ability to translate these letters into three dimensional reality for the world to behold . . .to SHARE the emotion, the thoughts, the reactions . . with the world is an incredible gift. . . Im awed and humbled by both Cumberbatch and Brealey. 1 of 2 - Benedict Cumberbatch and Louise Brealey read Chris and Besse at Letters Live, Hay Festival https://youtube/watch?v=SQgL7iuhL4I
