The Ten Commandments Exodus 20 (4) You shall not make yourself - TopicsExpress

The Ten Commandments Exodus 20 (4) You shall not make yourself any idols/graven image [to worship it] or any likeness of anything that is in the heavens above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; Until you can’t differentiate Idols from image Then you didn’t interpret The second commandment perfectly Don’t be confuse Don’t define the word idol by yourself Refer to a dictionary Idol and image are two different Words with different meaning Idol is an object worshiped as god Image is a visual representation For example A television is an appliance But if you worship the T.V. as god Then it’s no longer an appliance But an idol A car is an automobile But if you worship it as god Then it’s no longer an automobile But already an idol The statue of Jesus is an image But if you worship the image as god Then it’s no longer an image but an idol There you’ll see there’s no problem If you make images of Jesus as long as You won’t worship it as god An idol may not be an image An image may not be an idol Because if you thought Idol and image are the same Then your picture in facebook Is also consider as an idol If you thought second commandment Prohibited us to make religious images You’re wrong Because if second commandment Prohibited us to make religious images Then Exodus 20:4 will contradict In numbers 21:8-9 (8) And the Lord said to Moses, Make a fiery serpent [of bronze] and set it on a pole; and everyone who is bitten, when he looks at it, shall live. (9) And Moses made a serpent of bronze and put it on a pole, and if a serpent had bitten any man, when he looked to the serpent of bronze [ attentively, expectantly, with a steady and absorbing gaze], he lived. In the New Testament It was revealed that the One that the fiery serpent symbolizes Was Jesus Christ himself John 3:14 And just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the desert [on a pole], so must [so it is necessary that] the Son of Man be lifted up [on the cross], So these are proofs that The production of religious images Is not a sin and a mistake And religious images are not idols Before David make a fiery serpent because our God in the Old Testament was faceless Now we don’t have to make a fiery serpent as a visual representation of God Because our God today had already revealed his real face We should now make an image of God that looks like Jesus already Just like David he was commanded By God to make two cherub ( Angel ) 1 Chronicles 28 (18) For the incense altar refined gold by weight, and gold for the plan of the chariot of the cherubim that spread their wings and covered the ark of the Lords covenant. (19) All this the Lord made me understand by the writing by His hand upon me, all the work to be done according to the plan. So in obedience David ordered Solomon to do it 2 Chronicles 3 (10) And in the Most Holy Place he made two cherubim of image work, and they were overlaid with gold. (11) And the wings of the cherubim [combined] extended twenty cubits: one wing of one cherub was five cubits, reaching to the wall of the house, and its other wing of five cubits touched the other cherubs wing. (12) And of the other cherub one wing of five cubits touched the wall of the house, and the other wing, also five cubits, joined the wing of the first cherub. (13) The wings of these cherubim extended twenty cubits; the cherubim stood on their feet, their faces toward the Holy Place. (14) And he made the veil [between the Holy Place and the Most Holy Place] of blue, purple, and crimson colors, and fine linen, and embroidered cherubim on it. So this is another proof that It’s not a mistake to make Religious images as long as We don’t worship it as god Because it’s not us who made GOD But it is GOD who made us We read the Bible to imitate What’s the use of reading the Bible if we don’t imitate what we read IMITATION IS A BIBLICAL FORM OF HONOR Images are EXPRESSIONS OF LOVE Idols are expression of stupidity Destroying an image is an expression Of hatred Hatred is evil Breaking of religious images Is an indirect attack on God It’s an expression of disrespect Iconoclasm ( breaking of religious image ) Is a sin Religious images are sacred God commanded it to be made Not to be broken If someone torn your picture How does it feel The golden calf that Moses destroyed Was an idol not a religious image The golden calf symbolizes no one Religious images symbolizes someone What can Catholic Church get From worshiping an image? NOTHING!!!! So next time Do not misinterpret the second commandment So you won’t misinterpret us Catholics If religious images are idols Then the things that God commanded to Moses, David and Solomon to be made are also idols Are Catholics worshiping images? Of course not, it’s just an intrigue Fundamentalist said Catholics are worshiping the image Because Catholics are praying upon an image But it doesn’t mean you pray in front Of an image you already worship The image because what Catholics are worshiping Is not the image but the God That the image symbolizes And if we pray in front of the image of Saints It doesn’t mean we also worship the image But we pray on the one (Saints and Angels) That image represent to Ask for an intercession Fundamentalist said After they broke their Religious images They immediately have a Peaceful and better life They became spiritual They always have an urge In reading the Bible They became nice person But the truth is being nice Comes from within And breaking religious images Has nothing to do with it Peace of mind, heart and family Comes from within Not from iconoclasm Others would blame chaos, fight and quarrel On religious images But it’s just a propaganda So people will learn to hate These religious images So that people will have No conscience anymore in breaking religious images Sometimes if there’s a calamity They will blame it on religious images But it’s not true because Everywhere in the world With or without religious images calamity is always there Calamity is part of human life If there are couple quarreling They will condition the minds of the couple That the cause of their quarrel Are the religious images But it’s a lie False accusation is evil Fundamentalist said We don’t need religious images Because all we need are words of God Do they mean Numbers 21 8-9, john 3:14 1 chronicle 28:18-19 and 2 chronicle 3:10-14 Are not words of God? In fact the prohibition of the production Of religious images is obviously An act of opposing the words of God Yes it’s true that there are Catholics Who don’t know how to pray the right way Because they focus on the image In front of them and not to their prayer But it’s not right to generalize As a proud Catholic I also condemn what others are doing But I want you to know That the best way to condemn Is to teach them the right way to pray We should teach them to focus On their prayer and not to The image in front of them So if we did this We can come up with a WIN WIN solution We should beware barking On a wrong tree Other people are worshiping a mountain Does it mean we will bulldoze all the mountains around the world? It doesn’t make sense Therefore the best way to condemn Is to teach them the right way to pray It’s not right to teach people How to become an iconoclast Fundamentalist said Catholics are worshiping an image Because Catholics are kissing and Wiping on an image But the truth is that Wiping and kissing an image Is an EXPRESSION OF LOVE Not an act of worship Just like when we kiss and wipe The image of our loved ones We only express love on the person That the image symbolizes But we do not worship the image itself If I kneel and bow and pray in front of the tomb of my departed loved ones Does it mean I already worship them? Does it mean I already made them as gods? Does it mean I already worship the tomb? Of course not I kneel and bow in front of the tomb of my departed loved ones because I just give respect to them but it doesn’t mean I already worship them There you’ll see that worship can be measured depending on the content of a prayer and not through your action ( kneeling, bowing, wiping, kissing and etcetera } If I kneel down in front of my girlfriend To ask her approval for a marriage Does it mean I already worship her? Of course not I’m just showing humility and respect Also procession It’s not an act of worship on the image But it’s just an expression of love On the person that the image symbolizes We should not bow on idols But there’s no problem If you will bow down On religious images because Bowing down and kneeling is an Expression of humility It’s an expression of respect on the person that the image symbolizes although bowing and kneeling can be a posture of worship but worship cannot be measured on posture but on the content of a prayer just like in other countries they bow and kneel down on their kings and queens they did worship them rather they only express respect and humility Spreading the word of God is pleasing in Gods eye Copy and paste it in your friend’s timeline Send at least (10) ten of your friends God bless Here’s another proof That Catholics do not worship images Apostles Creed / Nicene Creed I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven, and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.
