The Texas Health & Human Services Commission is negotiating a contract with Correct Care Solutions to privatize the Terrell State Hospital. Correct Care Solutions is the new name for Geo Care, whose bid to take over management of the Kerrville State Hospital was rejected in 2012 due to concerns about patient safety. Because much like privately-run prisons, privately-run psychiatric hospitals for those with the least ability to pay have such stellar records of care for vulnerable populations. But Texas has a rider in its budget to continue pushing privatization an so here we go again. There are 9 other state-run psychiatric hospitals in Texas. For-profit management is not the correct care in any of them.
