The Threshing Floor Bible Studies Topic: Davids mighty men Study: 2 Samuel 23:8-39 Everytime I read about Davids mighty men I always conclude with the prayer May I never lack real people in my life. What could have made David to have such influence over these great men that were ready to jeopardize their life to make sure his life was preserved? These men gave him unprecedented loyalty and many of them were with him to the very end. Through them God preserved David and the kingdom. I tried to come with a non exhaustive list of the characters of David that EARNED him this following: 1. He loved and feared God genuinely: These men could see that Davids devotion to God wasnt fake. Integrity attracts loyalty. 2. He loved them genuinely: After those men returned with water from Bethlehem, his heart was revealed. He just couldnt take the water, he imagined what they would have gone through. He loved them. 3. He never rejected them: These people were rejected by family and friends because they were vagabonds but David looked at them and saw generals. 4.He was always ready to admit his fault: There are many people in leadership today that behaves and project the image that they are better than others. They even boast of their righteousness and achievement. They find it demeaning to admit that they are wrong but David wasnt like that, his men saw him cry before God everytime he made mistakes. 5.He led them: He wasnt just ordering them around, he also did the same thing he asked them to do. He went into battle with them. Inculcate these characters and you will see your influence grow and people will follow you genuinely not because of your position but because of who you are. Study that scripture and add more lessons from Davids life that made him command such loyalty. Lord, may I never lack men where it matters most. Do have a great day.
