The Top 25 Haunts for A Vegas-ite! Not in any 0rder except My Number 1 ! 1. The Oyster Bar @ Palace Station Casino on Sahara. The Station Casinos are all local casinos. They are friendly. At the original Oyster Bar, try to go when AJ is cooking. He’s straight out of Louisiana, and loves to have his pic taken with you! Always take an out of Towner with you. Do not let them order Clam Chowder AND a Pan Roast! DO NOT! Hands down, my number one place in Vegas! 2. Boulder Blues on Thursday nights at the Boulder Station! ‘Nuff Said! 3. The Bellagio: Park in the covered garage, take the elevator down, and you are right there with the Chihuly glass blown Umbrellas overhead and the seasonal ever changing Atrium. It’s the best winner to take a tourist out. Have a glass of wine in the bar right off the lobby! 4. The Rio Mardi Gras show nightly. A free show, but pass on the all you can eat seafood buffet (which is the best seafood buffet in Vegas), but honestly: There is no such thing as “All you can eat seafood!” (Just go to the Oyster Bar!) 5. The new performing arts center downtown. In fact all of D/T’s makeover is worth taking in. Included: Cowtown Guitars, Baja Jose’s Mexican Food, and of course the Fremont Experience and the sound and light show. 6. The pool at the Golden Nugget. It’s the shark pool! Worth seeing! Eat at the nice Seafood restaurant there or the great Italian food restaurant right by the pool. 7. Viva Las Vegas at the Orleans during Easter. For 16 years it’s the best of Rat Rods, Tatts, and Rockabilly – The Best! And… it’s a culture not to be missed, a culture unto itself – Unique! This must be My Number 2! 8. The Renaissance Faire in Sunset Park in the summer! 9. A day trip to Mesquite to get away from La La Land! It is a sane and different slice of life and an easy trip. Green grass and nice trees and a real town, although somewhat sanitized. 10. The lobby of St Rose’s Hospital in Henderson - Green Valley; and its Meditation Garden. Take a look at the paintings and story of Saint Rose! Very peaceful, a quiet meditation away from a hectic city! 11. The campus of UNLV. Take a walk along the grass mall and enjoy the trees and gardens. The Symphonic Concert Hall and the Art Museum are well worth taking in, too! 12. A J’s Music in Green Valley. This is the second AJ in Vegas. This is a fantastic place! Karaoke night. There are three in one at AJ’s. His music shop on site; the bar and all the memorabilia; and the restaurant and show stage! Their late night jazz offerings are surprising. Have a meal: Best food fish and chips (sweet potato fries not salted but cinnamon flavored)! Meet new friends, not tourists. 13. Best Pizza: Shared prize and completely different. Settebello’s –Henderson; Metropolitan Pizza on Flamingo and Maryland. I love the pasta at Metro – nice and hot and plentiful, and sooo good! 14. House of Blues Bar and Restaurant in the Mirage! 15. The Mirage, all of it: It’s fun to just walk around the big floor and people watch. Have a wine in the large bar in the center! Watch people! 16. Karaoke: Anywhere that Terry Oke is K J’ing; He’s personable, entertaining and the singers follow him. 17. Best cover band: Yellow Brick Road, usually at Boulder Station on Saturdays. 18. Best out of town Biker Bar: Mountain Springs Saloon. It is a pretty ride too. 19. Best Bar Maid local drinking hole: Blue Diamond Saloon, stop in and say Hi to Heather and mention upstate New York! She might buy you a drink! 20. Best Hot Chick - Bar Maid bar with the best food! (I go there for the food!) BJ’s it’s close to the strip off of Trop! 21. Best thing not to do: Do not travel East on Desert Inn! At least get off before the strip: Also Only go South on the Strip, and then only at night with tourists! Go north on Industrial! And: Don’t drive in Vegas if you do not have to! 22. City Center! Period! Valet park!! Have a ball! Check out the marble floors and ALL the architecture! Not to be missed. It took Obama and Harry Reid to finish this ¾ done project with stimulus money! Glad it happened. It was the LAST work in Vegas for a couple a years!!! WoW! 23. The Joint! At the Hard Rock. See Santana! Then see all of the inside of The Hard Rock Café! 24. Hoover Dam and the new bridge over the Colorado. Se the bridge at night! 25. All of the sightseeing around the outskirts of Vegas and include the botanical gardens in town: Include Red Rock, the Petroglyphs and the Hot Springs and swim with the goldfish, Bonnie Springs, and Old Nevada, wild horses If they are still there, and Sunrise mountain! Oh well: that’s my top 25. Enjoy, and maybe come up with 25 of your own!
