The Travis Audubon Society Rare Bird alert has been reporting a Dusky-Capped Flycatcher at Pedernales Falls State Park for the past week or so, so Edward and I went out to take a look. Normally the DCFL is found only in isolated spots in west Texas, NM, and AZ in the summer, so this bird is wrong for both the season and the location. The first bird we saw matched the description superficially, but we later determined that it was in fact an Eastern Phoebe. We heard a distinctive pee-uur call, though, and kept looking for the DCFL. Edward got a shot (Canon 60Da, 100-400mm lens at 400mm). The field marks match the DCFL, particularly the lack of red in the underside of the tail feathers, but wed love other opinions. See eplumer.blogspot/2014/11/dusky-capped-flycatcher-at-pedernales.html for more.
