The Trilateral Commission created this report on The Crisis of Democracy, under the direction of David Rockefeller apparently, in the early 1970s, to analyze the root causes of the social movements of the 1960s. They discovered that too much education was the root of the problem. The answer was to de-educate the populace. This makes the current threat posed by the Internet more obvious, and also makes it clear that our current situation is a race against time.
