The Two Temples. In Hebrews 8 and 9 a secret is revealed. A veil lifted for the reader to capture a glimpse into the operation of the Temple in heaven. It is a wonderful revelation found only here, in the amazing book of Hebrews. In this passage we find a comparison between the earthly Jewish Temple and its priesthood in Jerusalem, with the REAL Temple and the New Priesthood in heaven! We discover that when Moses was taken up onto the mountain, God gave him a vision of the Temple of God in heaven. He saw Gods throne and a seat at His right Hand. In front of the throne was a golden chest covered by a lid. Upon that lid he saw two mighty Cherubim (angels) facing each other. Their massive wings folded around them touching at the tips. Where the bottom of their wings touched each other over the chest they formed a kind of seat. This is called the Mercy Seat. It is the place where Gods judgement for sin meets Gods Mercy for sinners. It was there, between the angels wings, that Moses saw the Glory of God. It was above the Mercy Seat formed by the angels wings that the Voice of God was heard. This heavenly chest was the Ark of Gods Covenant. It was there on the mountain that God instructed Moses to build on earth a replica of what he had seen in heaven. SO when Moses returned from the mountain he built a tabernacle and placed inside of it a replica of the golden chest he had seen in heaven. He then developed an intricate system of priesthood and sacrifice to offer worship to God and to make atonement for sin. This earthly temple became known as the Most Holy Place with its golden box, the Ark of the Covenant. It was here that Gods mercy and judgement would be decided for the people, and it was here that Gods Presence was said to dwell. These chapters reveal that the earthly tabernacle and its golden ark was a placeholder enabling God to forgive sins until a future time when a New Priesthood would be ready in heaven to replace the temporary one on earth. The earthly priests, who descended from Moses own family, would make sacrifices for the sins of the people looking forward to the day when God would send His Messiah - His own Son to permanently take away the sins of the world. This is why John the Baptist declared when he saw JESUS coming to be baptized, behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world....(John 1:29). Hebrews 9 tells us that after Jesus death on the Cross, He ...has now become the High Priest over all the good things that have come. He has entered that greater, more perfect Tabernacle in heaven, which was not made by human hands and is not part of this created world. With his own blood...he entered the Most Holy Place once for all time and secured our redemption forever. [Heb 9:11-12 NLT] From that moment forward the Temple in heaven replaced the Temple on earth. The New High Priest in heaven has replaced the human priesthood on the earth. For the believer today, our priesthood is in heaven. The One who represents us before THE FATHER is The Fathers own Son!. Now Jesus works to represent us to HIs Father and apply the benefits of His own shed blood to our lives. For Christ did not enter into a holy place made with human hands, which was only a copy of the true one in heaven. He entered into heaven itself to appear now before God on our behalf. [Heb 9:24 NLT] The Book Of Hebrews reveals that we have an Advocate at the Fathers Right Hand in the Heavenly Temple. His Blood is on the Heavenly Ark of the Covenant, between the angels wings, forever proclaiming that our sins are paid for. From this seat our High Priest Jesus forever lives to intercede and pray for us to experience everything His Blood has purchased for us. What an incredible revelation. What a wonderful salvation. What an awesome and precious High Priest! Share if you like, and post your comments here.
