The U.S. government, no matter which party is in power, provides generous subsidies to the agrochemical corporations through the Farm Bill, Trade Agreements and other artificial protections of GMOs. We can rescind those and provide incentives to American farmers that spur diversification and agroecological approaches. There is no reason, beyond the corporate artifice, that our farmers shouldn’t be growing abundant, healthy food. Tonight, across America, tens of millions of children suffer food deprivation because a few people profit enormously. We have a moral obligation to do something about this situation. We must “get political” and get involved in legislative battles and political campaigns. We need not get arrested or engage in grand acts. Leave that to those who have the luxury of time and resources. Neither, do not be intimidated by their commitment. They have their place as the conscience of the movement. But you must engage the political system, despite the ugly current reality, and take back our government from these multinational, foreign powers. If you’re feeling overwhelmed or inconsequential, hopeless; well, that’s exactly how they want you to feel. In fact the only power they have over us is our own feelings of powerlessness. Consider that you are in a stronger position than the serfs who fought the aristocracy, you are less vulnerable than the slaves who fought off the ones who claimed to own them. A massive nationwide effort is already underway to amend the constitution, which has been done many times already. It is not unheard of. It happens. With a constitutional amendment that defines a person as a person and speech as speech. A constitutional amendment that says a corporation is not a person and money is not speech. Sixteen states have already passed legislation to that effect. We need you in this fight. But it is a major battle that we’re winning. You would know about it if we had a media. your neighbor is waiting for you
