The Unbroken Spirit! For a good part of four decades, the Young Muslim Digest has been attempting to inspire and inform Muslim youngsters in particular, and humankind in general, to adopt a life that is in conformity with nature, and in consonance with what their Creator revealed unto His prophets. We did not, nor will ever, seek to promote a specific ideology, or a personality, or a cult; nor did we seek out a following for ourselves. Yes! We did speak out against oppression, against deviance, against wrong; but never did we take sides to win fans or accolades. Gone are the days when every page of the magazine was painstakingly composed by hand –each letter, punctuation and space (actually, pieces of lead) having to be placed by hand in a frame that was later mounted on what is called a treadle-printing machine. Technology has eased matters quite a bit. However, spiraling costs of production, and a general dis-enchantment with things spiritual are some of the major challenges we face today. The situation has now deteriorated to such an extent that with the release of one edition, we are unsure if we will be able to afford the next. Nevertheless, when we see the growing numbers of youngsters disconnected from their spiritual moorings, and the ever-increasing decadence in society— evidenced by growing crime, broken families, distraught parents watching helplessly their children throwing moral values to the wind, and the like— we realize we cannot stop. What has, and will keep us going, is divine intervention and the support of our well-wishers. Also, every time we hear from our readers about how the magazine influenced them, and made them better human beings, we feel inspired to continue the mission.
