The United States has observed Memorial Day since after the Civil War to remember those who gave their lives in service to our country. It has been recognized as a federal holiday since 1971, and is considered by most to be unofficial beginning of summer. While we enjoy the holiday weekend with family and friends and attend parades and gatherings, we need to remember the reason for the holiday and our ability to live and celebrate as we freely choose has been assured for us by those brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice. Many thanks our fallen veterans and their families. Have a safe and enjoyable Memorial Day.
