The University of Juba academic staff association has suspended - TopicsExpress

The University of Juba academic staff association has suspended its strike following a commitment to reinstate allowances from this month. The National Legislative Assembly announced the move to restore allowances at the weekend during the passing of the budget. Academic Staff Association Secretary General Leonzio Angole Onek says lectures resumed as of yesterday (Wednesday). But he says the decision is yet to be ratified by the general assembly. “The executive committee has therefore lifted the strike with immediately effect the strike by the academic strike in the University of Juba. It has deferred the ratification of this decision to lift the strike by the academic staff association general assembly on Friday October the 18th 2013.” University of Juba staff went on strike on October 7 calling for reinstatement of allowances and are the last to resume work. Other universities ended their strike action last week, or did not launch industrial action.
