The Upper Fibres of Trapezius Many people suffer from a ‘stiff neck’ or ‘neck ache’, there are many reasons behind these complaints but a common cause (and effect) can stem from the upper fibres of trapezius muscle. This is the bulky muscle group that sits between your shoulders and your neck. Very often people will complain of “carrying their tension around there neck” and this is often the problematic area. Anatomy; The muscle is large and kite shaped, attaching from the base of the skull out to the back of the shoulders then down to the base of our spine. The upper section is used for neck movements, and hence tightness here can cause a “stiff-neck” Causes of problems; Poor posture Shoulder shrugging Stress Whiplash/car accident What to do?
