The Vaqueros are 5 days away from their first international match against the El Salvador U-21 National Team. The international friendly is slated for 6 p.m., Saturday October 18 at QuikTrip Park in Grand Prairie. Tickets are available at tickethour.us/vaqueros-ww/showProductList.html or by calling 817-200-7355. Vaqueros players Nestor Martinez and Jaime Benitez are both eligible to represent El Salvador in the future through their parents’ lineage. Benitez took time from Vaqueros training to answer 5 questions for the Fort Worth supporters. 1. What does soccer mean to the Salvadorian people? I think soccer to Salvadorans, it is more about the pride in the game and being happy seeing someone from a small country succeed in a sport loved around the world. 2. What area of El Salvador are your parents from? My parents are from the San Miguel area. 3. How did you get started playing soccer? I got started while watching games on TV with my dad and also watching him play the game. My brother and I would play around with our friends from the apartment complex. 4. What is your favorite part of the game? My favorite part about the game is the feeling I get while I’m playing. I just feel free and have no worries of the world outside those lines. Also, to be able to inspire a young kid to fall in love with the game. 5. What do you expect from the crowd during the El Salvador game? I expect the crowd be a little crazy always chanting just like our Panther City Hellfire fans. Vaqueros coach Mark Snell added his thoughts leading up the match; “Training has been going very well as the boys are extremely motivated. We are excited to play our first international match against a very talented El Salvador team. It will be a great atmosphere with our supporters group, Panther City Hellfire and the local Bichos Unidos - Supporters Group of El Salvador National Team Seleccion De Futbol Playa De El Salvador. Vaqueros owner Michael Hitchcock added: “The Fort Worth Vaqueros are honored to be invited to play El Salvador in our clubs first international friendly. Its a great opportunity for our players to play against some of the top young players in our hemisphere while Vaqueros fans will experience a fun international soccer atmosphere. Its been great to see the excitement for the friendly from both the Vaqueros fans and local El Salvadoran community.
