The Vet Let me tell you about being alone, To be without - TopicsExpress

The Vet Let me tell you about being alone, To be without family, friends or home. Passing my days in the deepest throes, Hiding from my deepest woes. Let me tell you of the lingering fear, That expects to become a profiteer, From all my loneliness and my grief, He will rob me of happiness, like a thief. Let me tell you of all that I lost, And though not my fault, how I paid the cost. From a soldier in a life’s battle field, To a darkened room where my life is sealed. Let me tell you, so you’re forewarned, Life isnt easy when you been scorned. Once a soldier and now a vet, Homeless with no regret. Let me tell you how weve been forgotten How weve been left alone dying and rotting. Into the war we fought and some died, Not one person shed a tear or cried. So you tell me, why we are still living, We gave and gave, and were still giving. Nothing in return has come our way, Just loneliness and alone every day. So I sit here in my dark stale room, Alone and filled with soldier gloom, Staring at the walls as if in a cell, Living alone in my little hell. Let me tell you about being alone, To be without family, friends or home. Passing my days in the deepest throes, Hiding from my deepest woes. ©Rik Bertrand (OCT 2014 #7) I was a soldier once and now a vet….I don’t get it.
