The Vindication of George W. Bush Obama really should apologize to Bush. This article is about another major reversal, and once again the President has significantly changed his viewpoint from 2008. He is not alone, and much of the liberal criticism of the Bush years was incoherent and hysterical. It is not limited to war powers. In a complete reversal of his 2008 campaign rhetoric, Obama has continued all of Bush’s war on terror policies, even though he refuses to use that term. Back then, 36 Democratic congressmen thought they were impeachable offenses, but after he was elected Obama changed. He now approves of the Patriot Act (he had voted against it), holding some terrorists indefinitely without trial, rendition, state secrets, and presidential signing statements. He now supports targeted killings. He was correct in issuing an order to kill a U.S. citizen, Anwar al-Awlaki, who was orchestrating terrorist attacks for al-Qaeda. He also made the right decision in authorizing the Osama bin Laden raid, even though it violated Pakistans sovereignty. Under Bush, the liberals said sovereignty violations justified impeachment, but they were silent when Obama did it. They denounced Bushs use of drones, but Obama has increased drone attacks ten fold. As this article indicates, the liberals have also done a complete reversal on military authorization. Today these issues are all forgotten by the hard core left, and they were not raised in the 2012 campaign. The Obama flip flops also include many domestic issues. In 2008 Obama attacked tax cuts for the rich. Now he has done what Bush never could accomplish. He made 99.3% of the Bush tax cuts permanent. Keep Hope Alive. This is the change we can believe in.
