The WPA Rebel Series and the Keystone Unlimited All-Stars teamed Saturday night at Flatrun Speedway with plenty of excitement for race fans to enjoy. Fortunately, Mother Nature was on our side as rain fell early enough that the track crew had time to get it ready for racing. Nine muscle karts took to the track, many hoping to get that first win of 2013. The muscle karts time trialed to set the heat lineup and get an order for the “Dash for Cash” during intermission. Here’s how they timed out (fast lap listed) 1) 11J Jim Mulhal 12.740 2) 21 Mike Clark 12.878 3) XXX Brandon Oldham 13.117 4) 999 Mark Bergfelt 13.356 5) 38 Randy Adair 13.557 6) 45 Keith Clark 13.628 7) 10 Zachary Clark 13.925 8) 20 Hillary Truitt –DNT (broken chain) 9) 707 Paul Deasey – DNT Next up was the Heat race to set the Feature lineup. On the pole was fast qualifier the 11J Jim Mulhal of the Rebel Series. The green flag dropped and the muscle karts were turned loose. Mulhal held the lead for the first few laps, then the 21 of Mike Clark saw an opening in turns 3 and 4 to get past the 11J and did to take the lead. With the door open, the XXX of Brandon Oldham tried to get through for the 2nd spot when contact was made between him and Mulhal. Mulhal spun and broke his chain, so his heat race was done. Oldham was sent to the tail, then off the track by the officials. That left Mike Clark on the point for the restart. Clark held the lead for a good bit of the heat until the 707 of Paul Deasey, coming from the scratch position, was able to run him down and take the lead and the checkers for the heat. Lots of great racing action and position swapping, including the 10 of Zach Clark who was very quick and finished third in the heat. Heat Finishing Order; 1) 707 Paul Deasey 2) 21 Mike Clark 3) 10 Zach Clark 4) 45 Keith Clark 5) 38 Randy Adair 6) 999 Mark Bergfelt 7) 20 Hillary Truitt DNF- chain popped 8) XXX Brandon Oldham-DNF 9) 11J Jim Mulhal – DNF-broken chain As an added bonus to the drivers and the fans, a “Dash for Cash” shootout was held, just for some bonus money on the night. The top 5 qualifiers raced it out for the cash. Jim Mulhal was able to come back out lead the field at the start. Mike Clark and Brandon Oldham stayed within striking distance. With only a handful of laps remaining, something broke on Mulhal’s ride and he had to come off. Mike Clark was able to hold on and take the cash bonus! Finally, it was time for the Feature. Starting on the pole was the Heat winner Paul Deasey. At the green, Deasey was able to pull away from the field and opened up a solid lead on the field. The battles were the 2nd through 5th position, with a lot of clean passing and position swapping. The caution and red flag was flown as the 45 of Keith Clark contacted the backstretch wall and the XXX of Brandon Oldham was unable to avoid making contact. Clark was able to walk off the track, but his #45 was tore up pretty good. Initial word was that he would be alright. Back to racing action, with the 707 Paul Deasey pulling away from the field once again and the battle fell to the second spot between the 38 of Randy Adair, Mike Clark, and Brandon Oldham. When the checkers fell, Paul Deasey claimed his first win of the season, with Randy Adair in 2nd and Mike Clark able to hold off Oldham for the 3rd position. Feature Order; 1.) 707 Paul Deasey –KUAS 2.) 38 Randy Adair- KUAS 3.) 21 Mike Clark – Rebel 4.) As always, another great show when the WPA Rebels and the KUAS hit the track together!! Next up: WPA Rebels will be at Stateline Speedway in Busti, NY August 3rd. KUAS will return to action at Blairsville Speedway on August 17th.
