The West Chester Area School District and its teacher’s union have reached a tentative agreement. Details will not be made public until both sides vote on the new contract. The education association will vote on the agreement October 1. If approved, the school board will vote on the agreement at a special meeting October 8th. School board Vice President Vince Murphy said, “I’m very pleased that we have reached a tentative agreement on a contract that is both fair to taxpayers as well as the teachers in our district”. Association President Debbie Fell echoed those sentiments in saying, “By reaching a tentative agreement, we take the first step in that mission, which is in everyone’s best interest especially our children”. Negotiations have been ongoing since the last contract expired June 30th 2012. Although both sides agreed to have an independent fact-finder review data and make a recommendation, a settlement still could not be reached necessitating further negotiations between the two parties.
