The Whip pub is another of the places with persistent rumours of large underground cellars and tunnels below its bars. A little bit of trivia about the pub. Between the wars it earned the reputation of boasting more beer sales than any other Leeds public house. Prior to the 1970s only men were allowed to frequent The Whip. The men only rule was relaxed in the 1970s and a ladies toilets were fitted out. The crooked old building on the left stood near the Whip pub in Hirsts yard. It was demolished but was formerly a nail factory owned by Levi Law.
