The Works Of Christ “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever - TopicsExpress

The Works Of Christ “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father.(John 14:12 ESV) Just what are the works of Jesus? The word in the Greek is ergon - meaning work, toil, deeds, occupation. So, in order to know what kind of works we are to be about as Believers, we must look at what Jesus was about. When He first began His public ministry, Jesus went into the synagogue, took the scroll of Isaiah and read; “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” (Luke 4:18-19 ESV) From His own declaration, we see that part of His work was to: 1) Proclaim the Good News to the poor 2) set captives free 3) open blinded eyes 4) bring liberty to those who were under oppression 5) proclaim Gods favor! These works were demonstrated through the miracles, signs and wonders He performed! These were EVIDENCES that the Kingdom of God has come! Jesus said, But if it is by the finger of God that I cast out demons, then the kingdom of God has come upon you.(Luke 11:20 ESV) Jesus also declared that He had come to seek and save that which is lost.(Luke 19:10). So, part of His work is to bring the Word of repentance and salvation to the whole world. We know by study of the Scripture that Jesus did all these works by the power of the Holy Spirit. And that is the same power we are to operate under. Once Jesus was asked, Then they said to him, “What must we do, to be doing the works of God?” Jesus responded to them this way, “This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent.”(John 6:28-29 ESV). Our ability to do greater works is subject to our BELIEVING in Christ! Either we believe what Jesus says and in Who He is or we dont. If we do, we can do all things through Christ because it is Him doing the work through us! If we dont believe Him we will never try to do the works of the Kingdom. Jesus promised, “If you love me, you will keep my commandments. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.(John 14:15-17 ESV) To keep His commandments means to OBEY what He says! When we are obedient to Jesus we will DO the works He did! We will be filled and empowered by the Holy Spirit and will do the works of Christ!
