The World of #Urnabhih 1: As pointed out by Priya Kapoor this book could well be thought of as a sequel of MudraRakshasa, the 5th Century CE Sanskrit play by Vishakhadatta .Being forgotten by history is not a new phenomenon; so were Chandragupta and Chanakya forgotten. Before the rediscovery of the Arthashastra manuscript by R Shamasastry of the then Mysore Oriental Library in 1905 most of the information about this ancient duo of Chandragupta and Chanakya was based on this play. This itself was written more than 800 years after the accession of Chandragupta and led to a rediscovery of the Mauryans in medieval India. MudraRakshasa details the events leading upto Chandraguptas’a Rajtilak, the alliances for and against the Mauryans, the conspiracies, the attempts on Chandragupta’s life etc. Urnabhih takes up the story from accession and moves it to the first phase of the establishment of the Mauryan Empire which was within the Indian sub continent.
