The Zambia Development Agency (ZDA) has announced that world-renowned entrepreneur and founder of the Virgin Group, Sir Richard Branson will be the keynote speaker at next month’s Zambia Investment Conference in Lusaka. Speaking at a press briefing on Friday, ZDA Director General Patrick Chisanga said that Zambia’s profile continues to rise with international investors looking beyond mining and into sectors that can offer real investment return in the country. He said Zambia’s international profile is on the rise with investors increasingly focusing their attention on the country due to the attractive investment opportunities its presents in diverse economic sectors, an emerging middle class and year on year growth averaging 6.5 percent over the last five years “We’re seeing the country’s international investment profile emerge on the back of a resilient economy, opportunities in various non-traditional sectors such as agri-processing, technology, media and telecommunications as well as distribution and logistics,” says Chisanga. Chisanga said that through trade and investment platforms such as the forthcoming conference, Zambia was placing itself firmly on the radar of the international business community and that recent increases in foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows into the economy are a demonstration of the interest that Zambia continues to generate worldwide. “In 2013, Zambia attracted US$2 billion in foreign direct investment and the country is on track to surpass that level this year and into the future. Zambia’s increase in FDI inflows reflects international investor confidence in the Zambian economy and the stronger investment prospects it offers.” Sir Richard Branson, known worldwide for his diversified enterprises, will be the keynote speaker at the Zambia Investment Conference next month. The conference, which takes place 4 – 5 December is a collaboration between Pangaea Securities and the Zambia Development Agency, bringing together some of the world’s most well-known entrepreneurs and Zambian business leaders to share the secrets of their success while inspiring enterprise and new investments. “We are delighted to confirm the attendance of Sir Richard Branson at the conference next month. As an entrepreneur and business leader, Sir Branson has a global profile that is instantly recognizable and brings into focus the significance of the conference. Sir Branson has a long track record of business success and the lessons learned from his keynote address will go some distance in nurturing the enterprise culture of Zambians in different sectors of the economy,” says Chisanga. He said Branson, who co-founded the Virgin Group in 1970, will be coming to share insights on enterprise and investment at the two-day conference. The Virgin Group has since grown to become a multinational branded venture capital conglomerate. Its core business areas are travel, entertainment and lifestyle, and it also manages ventures in financial services, transport, health care, food and drink, media and telecommunications; together, Virgin’s businesses consist of more than 400 companies worldwide. Virgin employs approximately 50,000 people, in 34 countries and global branded revenues in 2011 were around US$21billion. - See more at: mwebantu/2014/11/07/sir-richard-branson-to-speak-at-zambia-investment-conference/#sthash.QtAfMbBv.dpuf
