The ability to answer questions is important. However, if you are trying to develop your child’s spontaneous communication, be conscious of how often you do ask questions. Too many questions (or too much talking in general) may actually result in less communication. If that sounds like your child, try using less language overall, and fewer questions. Instead be interested in what your child is showing interest in, make occasional comments and be available to respond.
