The abstract (gray section) at the head of this AMA journal piece tells you what you need to know: rising health care costs in the US are not attributable entirely to aging boomers like myself. The most powerful factors that put the US in first place in the world in per capita health care costs are drug and hospital cost increases, mostly in the treatment of chronic diseases like cancer, heart disease and diabetes. Americans of all ages, especially in red states, are suffering increasingly, and at younger ages, from chronic diseases that shorten their lives and cost a bomb to treat. ill also attach the Huffington fluff piece, which is easy reading on the same study.
