The account of Noah is not merely about survival, as I’ve been - TopicsExpress

The account of Noah is not merely about survival, as I’ve been hearing recently. It’s not even primarily about one man, Noah. It is, rather, an account of how God, Creator of the heavens and the earth, graciously delivered a people from a cataclysmic, worldwide judgment. Far from being arbitrary or capricious, this judgment was brought about by the LORD for He had seen “that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.” And far from being irrelevant, the NT authors, including even the Lord Jesus Himself, have much to say about the flood and how we should look at it today. The Son of Man, for instance, speaks about how that account is something of a picture or type of the coming judgment when he says, “For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the days when Noah entered the ark, and they were unaware until the flood came and swept them all away, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.” The grace and holiness of God Almighty are magnificently portrayed in the Genesis narrative. Let us not lose sight this.
