The alternative wrap up of the weekends Senior action. OBHS 194/8 def Taieri 166/10 The lads from up the hill have made a promising start on their introduction to Senior cricket. They took on the Eels out at Brooky and batted first and must have been feeling rather nervy at 3 for 12. Mini Finnie lived up to the ODT hype with a nice 78 and he was ably supported by some roost by the name of Taylor Dunn (you will have to forgive my ignorance I genuinely have no idea who you are) who clicked up 46*. For the Eels with the rock undoubtedly it was Jack Hunter who was the star of the show as he helped himself to four for 27 off his 10. The Eels turned around and were in trouble early. No one got over 20 until Phil Lill down at seven. The inability to build partnerships of any note until the ninth wicket cost the Eels big time. Jack Hunter led the scoring with 38*. For the OBHS lads Luke Le Brun did the damage taking four for 41 off his 10 and he was backed up by Taylor Dunn who took three for 20 off 8.4. Overall a good start for OBHS at this level. Will be interesting to see how they progress as they hit some of the tougher teams in the draw. For the Eels I expect a few intense net sessions before they take on the Eagles this weekend. Man/boy of the match – Tossup between Finnie and Dunn but Dunn takes it in my book. NEV 210/7 def University Grange 31/10 Well I picked the result but what I did not pick was the manner in which it was achieved. The Swans batted first at Logan 1 and by all accounts it was not a bad deck at all. They were in a bit of strife early doors at two for eight. But little partnerships here and there between Miles and Griffin then the biggie between Jamie Murley (36*) and Isaac Gutschlag (53*) pushed them up to their score of 210. Usually a slightly above par score. Hynsey and Beck taking two wickets each are the bowling highlights for the Bookworms. Turning around for the second innings and the Bookworms must have been feeling ok about the day. Big blue was coming out and there must have been a few tidy ladies jogging the circuit around Logan. Then they went out and stood on the pitch. I won’t say batted because it appears not a lot of it went on. So I’ll just leave it there. For the Swans the standouts again were Sam Blakely and Jamie Murley taking three for 13 and three for 17 respectively. Man of the match – Jamie Murley for a big all-round effort. Albion 69/10 lost Kaikorai 70/2 Picked the Eagles to go back to back against the Demons but could not have been more wrong. Rumour has it the pitch was of dubious quality but that shouldn’t take away from a good effort by the Demons. Only Glum and Dukey registered score in the double digits scoring 16 and 20 each as the Eagles were befuddled by the spin of Tim Muir who picked up a handy five for 24 off nine overs. Hodgson and Myles picking up two each as well. The Demons got off to a shaky start losing both openers for 0. But after that some order was restored at Bishopscourt as Robbo (36*) and Hodgson (24*) got the Demons home with no further dramas. Man of the match – Tim Muir Green Island 149/10 lost Carisbrook Dunedin 151/2 Despite early predictions of this being a zesty encounter between the Dogs and Swamp Rats it proved to be about as bland as a Butter Chicken from that joint in the Meridian. Green Island were inserted onto a slowish Tonga 2. Harry was snicked off early but Gregor remained and played some nice shots through cover and straight before being yorked by Chris Ware for 26. As expected from the Swamp Rats Joycey (20) and Brad Scott (26) worked hard at the crease with Brad in particular hitting the ball fairly cleanly but unfortunately they could not convert their starts. Dion Lobb provided some lower order resistance as he made a nuggety 22* before brother Matt skied the last ball of the innings as they made 149. For the Dogs with the pill Sneds and Cormo picked up three wickets each with Phillips chipping in with two. The Dog’s got off to a nervy start losing Kaos snicked off to Lobb the elder for 7. But then a small partnership between Nossie and Seano settled things down before Seano was given LBW to Brad Scott for 11. That would be all the wicket taking for the afternoon at Tonga as Nossie and Rodden worked hard and batted patiently against a Swamp Rats unit determined to make it tough. Ultimately the Dogs chased down the total with Nossie finishing on 63* and Brad 47*. Man of the match – Nick Eathorne
