The annual Thalaanmai meet and the J C Kumarappa meet on Rural - TopicsExpress

The annual Thalaanmai meet and the J C Kumarappa meet on Rural livelihoods, local economy and small industries went on very well. It was well attended and each of the attendees had a successful story behind..so in such an illuminous gathering to focus on J C Kumarappa and to talk of revival of rural livelihoods and local economy thru JCKs was a great start.. a great move indeed.. looking at the todays development at any cost context and the all prevailing poverty and hunger and also peeping in to the fallacious empty achievement and quality of life.. can we turn around the lives and livelihoods in rural India? can we make ecological and economical sense in rural India? village self reliance? dignified earnings and right life style? we need not re-invent..JCK had all the answers.. so all we did was dig deep in to JCK> a rare attempt..and to do it at Gandhigram was the best thing..after all JCK spent most of his last days there! to compare the amount of money that will have to be invested in a rural industry Vs a modern factory, the ( investment in) lakhs per job, energy per job, ROI and local sales percentage! these 4 factors can be the right determinants.. Fantastic talks and presentations by Pamayan, inimitable balaji shankar, samanvaya Ram..and some insight in to real live rural achievements by the ladies of the Gandhigram SHG womens group..and showcasing the millet journey of Dinesh as rural enterprise.. a very satisfying meet.. looking forward to shake more branches and take this development and growth paradigms by the horn and after Millets, organic food it is rural livelihoods & local economy now.. come, join, participate, and make/be the change.. some photos from the event: (thx suresh lakshmipathy)
