The answer is False! This week is the 130th anniversary of the taking of this now famous photograph of the self-proclaimed “Dodge City Peace Commission” taken after the resolution of Saloon War that lasted several months and nearly required a militia sent by the Governor of Kansas to restore safety to the community. Depending on which side of the disagreement you were on, the reasons behind it was morality, decency and the civilizing of the frontier town or business competition from the establishment/city fathers and the more rowdy business owners. If you want to learn more about this interesting time in our community’s history, check out the topic at the Public Library, Kansas Heritage Center, Boot Hill Museum or Ford County Historical Society.
