The anti-nuclear lobby in Tamil Nadu has been claiming that - TopicsExpress

The anti-nuclear lobby in Tamil Nadu has been claiming that Kudankulam does not produce any power and that what is going on is a complete skulduggery. They show some document from TANGEDCO which does not show a line item against Kudankulam while showing power obtained from other plants. In a Puthiya Thalaimurai TV Show (Puthu Puthu Arthangal) ஞாநி சங்கரன் and I participated, this issue came up for discussion. I have subsequently talked to knowledgeable people and was pointed to this URL srldc.org/ of Power System Operation Corporation (a subsidiary of Power Grid Corporation of India) which shows power produced on any given day from various power plants across the country. This data is very detailed. For example the data for Kudankulam yesterday is Peak power 577 MW, Off-peak power 340 MW & day average 386 MW. (See the report for southern region, in the CENTRAL SECTOR (ISGS).) Kudankulam is spelt wrongly as Kundakulam. The anti-nuclear lobby should not think this is some other power plant. I wish the central government institutions do not insult us Tamils by using such wrong spelling. [An aside: TNs per capita power consumption is higher than that of all the southern states and its dealing with power demand also seems to be better. Maybe I was harsh on Ammas Govt. in not doing enough to meet the demands! Even if you drop the wind power TN is blessed with (which is not being properly utilised is another sorry story), we seem to be doing better than the other southern states. Still I would like Jayalalitha to do more.]
