The appeal of a federal court decision mandating district voting in Fayette County was heard Dec. 10 at the U.S. 11th Circuit Court of Appeals in Atlanta. There is no established time frame for a decision on the appeal to be rendered. Questions about whether a bench trial would be appropriate surfaced on several occasions during the proceedings. The idea behind the hearing was not to present new evidence, rather it provided an opportunity for attorneys to have their say on why the district voting mandate should or should not be upheld and to give the judges an opportunity to have questions answered.
