The article 325 of the Indian Constitution makes it mandatory that there will be only one electoral roll for all voters in each constituency irrespective of their caste, religion, gender etc and thus the election is to be held on secular principle only. When religious leaders appeal to a particular community in the manner of a fatwa to vote in a particular manner as a community it militates against the secular principle and it becomes a communal appeal. This aspect needs to be examined by the Election Commission and if necessary it should invoke law against such fatwa during election. The voters should take their decisions to vote according to their free choice.
