This is all too depressing and frustrating. Of all entities, it is the NATIONAL GOVERNMENT which has the capability to take control of the situation in the yolanda ravaged areas. The president keeps on blaming the local government. What can you expect from the local officials and the local work force. THEY ARE ALSO VICTIMS. During the first 2 days after the storm it was excusable that the situation was bad because of breakdown of all utilities- electricity, communication. BUT after that, slowly the outside world was able to have a view of the degree of destruction. The national government took over the control last Sunday, how come up to now all we hear in the news is that a lot of places have not been reached by aid? How come only the DOH and DSWD are in attendance and they always go together pa and why just the Cabinet Secretaries? Can an ASEC or USEC not be assigned to handle one area and just report to the command center so that MANY AREAS can be covered? Where is the DPWH - it can be TASKED to clear the debris. The regional division surely has access to heavy equipments that can be used to clear the major thoroughfares of debris so all the AIDS - food, medicine, man-power can be transported. It can also help to dig mass graves. How come there is a shortage of cadaver bags? Wasnt it mentioned that there were 10,000 deaths. Even if this is unconfirmed or an over estimation, DOH could have procured even a third of this. As mentioned earlier, the national government has the capability of MOBILIZING the air, water and land facilities. And what are our LAWMAKERS doing? IS CONGRESS ON RECESS? Shouldnt they be having special sessions to enact legislation to facilitate release of necessary funds. It is the PRIVATE SECTOR and the INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY that has been quick to come to the aid of the people in the ravaged areas. THANK GOD we have people of good hearts!!!! I know we are just looking from the outside, but our officials have the advantage of the view from the outside plus being where the devastation is. Whatever help we can - prayers, relief goods, financial assistance we have provided. We hope our government will do the same. This is a VERY CONCRETE SITUATION where our TAXES can be put to good use.
